As a parent, it is hard to watch your kid ride the emotional roller coaster of missing a turkey. In the end, it is necessary for this to happen in order for them to love and respect the wild turkey as much as we do. On the second day of youth season in NE Florida, Knox had a gobbler coming in to fight the avian x Jake decoy. He put on a show, but when it came time to pull the trigger, the “turkey nerves” got the best of him yet again and he shot low and to the left, knocking a hand full of feathers out of the gobbler. He was back on camera the next day so we were thrilled to have another crack at him. 19 days later the guys get a chance to go back to the spot where Knox missed and they were met by a fired up gobbler. The temps were in the 40’s and it was one of those “meant to be hunts”.
