I went all-in after one daylight photo of a mature Ohio whitetail, and it turned into one of the most exciting bow hunts I’ve ever experienced.
On September 30th, this buck daylighted near a stand of producing oaks. With nearly identical wind conditions the following evening, I decided to make an aggressive move and slip into the area where I believed he was bedded.
It was 77 degrees, the wind was marginal, and getting into the tree meant carefully working through standing corn without blowing him out. I knew there was a chance he could be bedded extremely close.
The strategy for this buck was simple: trail cameras, mock scrapes, and timing my move when he finally showed himself in daylight.
After disappearing for nearly two months, he showed back up hard-horned just days before this hunt. One daylight appearance gave me the information I needed to take a chance.
And that chance turned into a 10-yard encounter with my biggest bow buck.
