Ben Rising heads to Illinois chasing a mature buck known as Hammerhead, a nearly 175-inch whitetail buck that had been showing up throughout the summer and fall.
After a slow morning sit, Ben trusts his gut, pulls his setup, and makes an aggressive midday move that changes the entire hunt. Later that afternoon, Hammerhead appears nearly 250 yards away working a scrape. Ben grabs the rattling antlers, gets aggressive with a few grunts, and the big Illinois buck turns and heads his way. What follows is a close-range, self-filmed bowhunting encounter and one of those hunts where preparation, scouting, mobile hunting, and trusting your instincts all come together.
Hammerhead ended up scoring just under 175 inches..a beautiful Illinois whitetail and a hunt Ben won’t soon forget.
